Sono curiose le motivazioni addotte dallo Studio Araldico di Genova per l’inserimento delle figure presenti nello stemma di Fornovo San Giovanni. Dopo averlo approvato con delibera di giunta municipale dell’11 giugno 1949, il sindaco Andrea Pesenti il 25 luglio inoltrò istanza di concessione, convinto che lo stemma portasse lustro e prestigio al Comune che guidava.
Nell’Archivio Centrale dello Stato di Roma non risultano altri documenti o pareri espressi dai relativi organi governativi. L’Ufficio Araldico della Presidenza del Consiglio dei Ministri non contestò nemmeno l’anomalia riguardante l’approvazione di uno stemma mediante atto di giunta e non di consiglio. Il progetto rispecchia la storia del paese, almeno nelle intenzioni dello Studio Araldico, sebbene i simboli possano essere usati per altre amministrazioni civiche con simili caratteristiche; con il leone di rosso si vuole ricordare la feudalità esercitata dalla famiglia dei Secco d’Aragona, che apportò migliorie sui possessi ottenuti, dopo aver acquisito privilegi già in essere e confermati dal doge di Venezia nel 1449.
La fascia d’azzurro, posta sulla troncatura allude ai numerosi corsi d’acqua e sorgenti presenti sul territorio che diedero avvio all’industria locale. La suddivisione dello scudo in due parti uguali, coperte da metalli ha un significato preciso: l’oro evoca l’arma del capoluogo e l’argento rimanda a quella di Milano; in pratica lo scudo vuole considerare la presenza di queste due città nella storia del paese.
